Location

Approximately 30 km from Rethymno and 50 km from the city of Heraklion, this fishing village has transformed into a seaside resort with a glorious past. My name means honey, and the Venetians called Atali, the ancient name was Astali. There Atali Monastery nearby, keeping the medieval name of the place. It is built on an elevated peninsula, thus overlooking the bay and the sea.

With a small port, cafes, restaurants, snack bars, with good accommodation and three beaches on three small bays offers very good environment for your holiday, though the old visitors insist that, before, was more picturesque. In summer you can make excursions to Rethymno by water taxi. Of course, we can do trips to the mountains to the south, must be visit the Ideon Andron, the cave where, according to mythology, Zeus was born, chased by his father, Cronus. According to legend, the mountain located south of Bali, is the mountain of Zeus, in return for protection received, gave the Cretans mechanical giant Talos, to guard the island from invaders.

In the area there are three festivals each year. The Trinity, the Virgin Charakianis of August and the Monastery of Saint John in Atali on August 29.
